Pool Table Cloth

pool table clothPool table cloth affects the quality of the game. Of course, if the pool table is poorly built or is of inferior materials a quality cloth will add little to the playing experience although it may look good. A quality cloth gives you a smoother table which allows faster ball speed and increase accuracy but it’s difficult to achieve this if the structure beneath your cloth is poor. The most important factor you need to consider is the type of pool table bed often referred to as the felt.

The felt is an important element that affects the gaming experience; a better quality of felt gives you an enhanced experience. However, this article is about the cloth, your game may be affected by what’s underneath your cloth but the cloth is what you see and feel every time you play a game. Whether you have an expensive or inexpensive table, getting a quality cloth will enhance the quality of your game.

There is a lot to consider in buying a pool table cloth like its colour or liquid resistance but the most important factor you need to look for are durability and smoothness. A good indicator of a durable cloth is the weight per square yard of fabric which should not be below 19oz.  Smoothness is an indicator of speed or faster roll of balls. A good choice is a worsted cloth that has a tight weaved with all fibres of equal size making it smooth and allows balls to roll faster and more accurately. Unlike a standard grade cloth that has a visible nap on which the ball rolls slower because of its fuzzy fabric hairs.

A good gaming experience depends on many things such as: a well laid felt, a smooth and clean cloth, and the atmosphere of the room. A room decorated with warm colours will give you a more relaxed experience than one decorated with bright neon colours.

When I changed the overall look of my playroom, I knew I had to change the colour of my pool table cloth to match the new look of the room. I’m happy I found a cloth that has all I looked for in this 21-ounce pool table cloth made of 80% wool and 20% nylon. Although there are 6 other colours available, I settled for blue as it looks great in my playroom.
